Job Overview
The Apprentice Industrial Electrician role at Wellington Water offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the water and wastewater industry. As an apprentice, you will work under the supervision of qualified electricians to maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment at various water treatment and pumping facilities.
This role provides a pathway to becoming a fully qualified industrial electrician, with training and development opportunities to support your career growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment at water treatment and pumping facilities.
- Support the installation of new electrical systems and components as part of infrastructure upgrades.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults to minimize downtime and ensure continuous service delivery.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs performed.
- Collaborate with experienced electricians and other team members to gain practical knowledge and skills.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical expertise.
Requirements
- Completion of NCEA Level 2 or equivalent secondary education.
- Enrollment in or completion of a New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (Level 4) or similar qualification.
- Possession of a Trainee Limited Certificate from the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB).
- Valid New Zealand driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel to worksites.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Physical fitness to undertake the inherent requirements of the job, including working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
Skills
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and practices.
- Familiarity with industrial electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and automation in industrial settings.
