Job Overview: Apprentice Plumber

District Mechanical is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Apprentice Plumbers. This full-time, permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the plumbing trade while working on diverse projects throughout Edmonton. Apprentices will receive mentorship from experienced journeypersons and have the chance to advance through the apprenticeship levels.

Qualifications

  • Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required.
  • Experience: Will train; previous experience in plumbing or related fields is an asset.
  • Certifications: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate is preferred.
  • Transportation: Own transportation is required.
  • Tools: Personal tools and steel-toed safety boots are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems.
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.
  • Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
  • Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shapes and sizes.
  • Ensure installations meet government regulations.
  • Work in various environments, including confined spaces and wet/damp conditions.
