KW Habilitation Farm is an initiative that connects land, food and people through agriculture. Their Farm not only grows fresh, healthy food, but sows’ positive relationships between people and nurtures the roots of community, sustainability and land use. They are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join their team Farmer as a contract farm worker for the 2024 season. The Farmer Worker will assist their farmer to follow a rural garden site (1/3 acre) with bed preparation, planting and seeding, garden maintenance, harvesting activities (washing, packing, storing) assist with environmental stewardship, trail building and maintenance. Key Responsibilities of Contract Farm Worker:
- Crop Cultivation:
- Planting, watering, and harvesting crops according to seasonal requirements.
- Monitoring crop health and applying fertilizers or pesticides as needed.
- Livestock Care:
- Feeding and watering livestock, such as cattle, pigs, or poultry.
- Cleaning and maintaining animal housing and facilities.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operating farm machinery and equipment, such as tractors, plows, and harvesters.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on farm machinery.
- General Farm Maintenance:
- Maintaining fences, gates, and other farm structures.
- Assisting with irrigation systems and other farm infrastructure.
- Health and Safety:
- Adhering to health and safety regulations and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety guidelines.
- Record-Keeping:
- Maintaining accurate records of crop yields, livestock numbers, and other farm activities.
- Reporting any issues or concerns to the farm manager or supervisor.
Eligibility Criteria for Contract Farm Worker:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
- Self-Identify as being part of a group who is underrepresented or have additional barriers to the labor market.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN),
- Able to work 30 hours per week – including day, evening and weekend shifts.
- Valid driver’s license.
- The successful candidate will be energetic and motivated to learn new skills.
- Enjoy working outdoors in different weather conditions and able to do physical labor.
- Looking to gain work experience by getting a summer job.
- Have an interest in growing food and customer service.
